Final Evaluation for COP

Evaluation

What skills have you developed through the module and how do you think you have applied them?

I think my skills have really developed through this module. The Lectures have really helped me put my work into context and to understand the history behind what I am working towards. Even though my skills still have a long way to go I think doing the publication had helped me to make appropriated design decisions and used them effectively to produce the final publication.

What approaches to /methods to design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have been much more organised with this project than for some other ones, I started research at a much earlier point and so I felt more ready to start designing when it came to it. My skills on illustrator are always improving and I have once again really enjoyed making patterns for my publication using different shapes and colours in illustrator.

What strengths can be identified in your work and how have your/will you capitalise on these in the future?
I think my work look quite exciting, it is quite bright and uses colours which stand out. I think the patterns which i have made work well on the publications and they fit in well with the era's themselves. the actual nets also worked out well/better than i thought they would as they all fit together and are the same size.

What weaknesses can you identify and how will you address them in the future?

I really think my work looks slightly like it has been rushed, I have really enjoyed the publication but it felt like there was so much to juggle that i don't think i have put my best effort in, i think next time i need to improve my time management even more, in order to get the best out of my time and produce work to the best of my ability.

Identify 5 things which you will do differently next time and what you expect to gain from doing these.

  1. Prepare my work more for when I am printing, so that i don't feel stressed and pinked win I'm in the digital dungeons .this will make printing less stressful.
  2. Manage my time better so i have designated time slots for different projects, that way I won't get confused about what is with which project.
  3. Make sure i book a print slot ear lier so that i have time to prepare for final crit's
  4. Produce more development , which would give me more design options.
  5. Be more confident when itching an idea.

COVER DEVELOPMENT FOR 60'S,70'S ND 80'S.

For the cover i wanted to combine the aesthetics of all the albums which I created, in my feedback, people asked if the designs came together as a set or if they came separately,i wanted them to come as a set as the publication looks at the link between music and design throughout 3 decade not just one. so i literally just took different aspects of the designs and added them together. This is what it looked like.
I used the type for the 70's.
The pattern from the 60's
More pattern form the 70's and layout from the 80's including colour and image.

I once again added the quote to the back.
Here is the final thing.

1980's DEVELOPMENT

I started by designing the Front of the publication this is what the Type on the front cover will look like .

I used this Photograph taken in the 1980's by an unknown photographer, I found this on http://abduzeedo.com/

I then started to create a pattern by layering shapes and lens together.

I wanted to use colours which were bold but I put the opacity down so that they could be seen through one another creating layers.

I placed everything in boxes as I to died the design up and made it look more professional. the lines make the whole publication look more geometric with the circles and triangle looking shapes.

Once again i placed the Quote by Robert Shields on the reverse of the Album.

This is the sticker i designed to put on the CD with the 1980's music and design content.

I used circles again to place important text as they stand out and make to the referencing a little more interesting to read.

Back and front  of the publication.

This is what the content will look like once opened on the CD
I am happy with the outcome of the publication, however I don't think the aesthetics look particularly 80's once they were printed.

1960'S DEVELOPMENT

I began by Creating these image below, It is supposed to look like a women with wild hair but I have used circles as they were very popular within patterns in the 1960's.

After Creating the shape I experimented with different colours and decided to go with a mixture of pinks and light purples and white. as i think the black is too harsh.

I then started to work on the what would go on the background of the Album Cover, i liked the idea of using really bright colours as the 60's were fully of psychedelic patterns and colours often influenced by drugs and the effects which they have on vision and thought.

I wanted the design to have a depth to it and so I added layers to it, however I didn't like the colours used her so I changed them so they they were less visible and so the opacity was much lower and you could see through them.
This is what the pattern looked like after changing the colour and pattern slightly, i think the colours work much better as they are brighter and more eye-catching. Overall more similar to a design from the 1960's.
I added my pattern onto the background which I created and then started to add coloured boarders so that the Cover  layout was correct.
The type which i used was Pincoyablack Black, it is bold and typical of the 1960's as it really makes a statement.

After adding everything together this is what the front cover looked like.
I then created the rest of the publication using similar imagery. Below is the sticker which was placed onto the CD with the Content about 1960's design and music.
Back of the Publication

 Content of the actual publication

 Final Publication
Overall i m pleased with the way the publication has turned out, i found creating the 60's was the most enjoyable as i think it is a period of time which i am personally very interested in. I created all my own content for this one as i found it easiest to write about. Whereas for the other two i used content from the internet.
